Ulcinj to Podgorica Car Hire

Montenegro's capital — just 45 minutes inland from Ulcinj.

Podgorica — Montenegro's Capital, 45 Minutes from Ulcinj

Podgorica is the closest major city to Ulcinj, just 40 km inland — roughly 45 minutes by car. As Montenegro's capital and largest city, it sits on the confluence of six rivers (Moraca, Ribnica, Zeta, Sitnica, Mareza, Cijevna) with a population of around 170,000.

The city's architecture reflects every era: Ottoman clock towers, Austro-Hungarian facades, Yugoslav-era concrete blocks, and modern glass towers. The Millennium Bridge over the Moraca is the city's most recognisable landmark.

Podgorica works well as a day trip from Ulcinj or as a stopover en route to the northern mountains. Lower prices, easier parking, and restaurant tables without reservations make it a refreshing change from the tourist coast.

What to See

The old Turkish Quarter (Stara Varos) has narrow streets, a clock tower, and traditional restaurants. Delta City shopping centre has international brands and underground parking. The Green Market near the central square sells local produce daily.
